Back in Class

It’s that time of year again when young students scramble to their desks to beat the bell, catch up with old friends and make new ones, and learn something new every day.
The Coast News talked to a few children to find out how they felt about going to school.

Sydney
Sydney is a 6-year-old from Arroyo Grande. She will be going into the second grade at Ocean View Elementary School.

SYDNEY

What was your favorite thing you did over the summer?
Going to the Ravine Water Park because they have lots of waterslides that I like.

What will be your favorite subject in school?
Art because it is super fun. I like to paint and color and use stickers. I draw stars hearts and smile faces.

What do you think your least favorite thing will be about school?
Doing homework.

What will you miss most while you are in school?
Going to the water park and playing in the pool.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
I don’t know yet.


Miles
Miles is a 6-year-old from Arroyo Grande. He is going into the first grade at San Luis Obispo Classical Academy.

MILES

What was your favorite thing you did over the summer?
Camping. I did a water fight. I got my bathing suit on and got a water gun and I squirted it.

What will be your favorite subject in school?
I get to color and play.

What do you think your least favorite thing will be about school?
Probably that when we color and stuff, we only get to do it one time. You get to color, and then we have to clean it up, and we don’t get to do that again.

What will you miss most while you are in school?
I’ll miss watching TV. My favorite show is Teen Titans Go.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
A cat person. A person that has lots of cats.


Tristan
Tristan is a 5-year-old from Opomo (Nipomo). He is starting kindergarten at a yet to be determined school.

TRISTAN

What was your favorite thing you did over the summer?
Going up to Tahoe. We went golfing and to eat pizza. We stayed at a cabin for a long time, about five or seven days.

What will be your favorite subject in school?
Going into my class and making new friends.

What do you think your least favorite thing will be about school?
I’ll be nervous and stuff, for a little bit.

What will you miss most while you are in school?
Going to Tahoe.  I’m also going to miss my home and want to go to it. I have a Wii and I like it.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
A solider, because I want to, I like them. They take bad people to the police and do stuff nicely.


Darby
Darby is an 8-year-old from Arroyo Grande. She is going into the third grade at San Luis Obispo Classical Academy.

DARBY

What was your favorite thing you did over the summer?
Camping at Lopez Lake. I camped in a tent.

What will be your favorite subject in school?
Art because you get to use a lot of different things like paint and oil pastels and colored pencils and watercolors.  I paint cats.

What do you think your least favorite thing will be about school?
Literature because I just sit on the carpet and just listen (while the teacher reads). I like to read books that are about cats and that are funny.

What will you miss most while you are in school?
I will miss going camping.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
I want to be an author or an artist.


Nash
Nash is a 6-year-old from Arroyo Grande. He is starting the first grade at Ocean View Elementary School.

NASH

What was your favorite thing you did over the summer?
I went to the Mustang Water Park and went down the Stampede. It sprays you with water and it’s scary.

What will be your favorite subject in school?
Playing with the toys at recess. I like the slide and soccer. I also like math because you get to learn.

What do you think your least favorite thing will be about school?
Swinging. Writing because it is not fun. You just sit there and write.

What will you miss most while you are in school?
My teacher from last year, she was super nice.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
A truck driver because you get to deliver things to other places.


McKenzie
McKenzie is a 5-year-old from Arroyo Grande. She will be starting kindergarten at Ocean View Elementary School.

What was your favorite thing you did over the summer?
Going to the Ravine Water Park and going on the waterslide.

What will be your favorite subject in school?
Playing on the playground.

What do you think your least favorite thing will be about school?
I don’t really know.

What will you miss most while you are in school?
Playing outside.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
I want to be a bus driver.
