The first ever Summer SLO Record Swap – a seasonal extension of the annual vinyl record fair celebrating the analog – was held Aug. 13 at the SLO Grange Hall on Broad Street.
Thousands of records came with dozens of vendors from all over California while guest DJ’s spun up both inside and outside in the beer garden.
Gary J. Freiberg of Los Osos was among the enthusiasts who brought small fractions of their collections to the atmosphere that could be described as a cross between a flea market, art sale and comic book convention.
Freiberg noted that the sale has another function, in addition to helping him pay for the monthly storage of all his other discs; it passes music on to new generations.
“Only five-percent of this music has been transferred to digital,” he said. “If you don’t listen to vinyl you’ll never hear any of this.”
