Clsce Shw 08-28 Led KaapanaMaster of the slack key guitar, singer/songwriter Led Kaapana will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28 at Coalesce Bookstore, 845 Main St., Morro Bay. Tickets are $25 a person and available at the bookstore, or by calling 772-2880. Over a 40-year career, Kaapana’s voice has become legendary, rising and falling between from falsetto to baritone. With an easy-going style and kolohe (rascal charm), he has built a loyal corps of Led Heads from Brussels to his birthplace, the Big Island of Hawaii. Entertainment: Aug. 6–19, 2015

Macrea and MarieGrandma’s Frozen Yogurt & Waffle Shop, 307 Morro Bay Blvd., has some special musical events coming up in August and held in the store’s courtyard, “The Gathering Place.” From 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8 South Florida bluegrass music duo, Doug Macrae and Ange Marie will perform on the outdoor stage. Free. The duo play bluegrass and old-time music on guitar and mandolin. Preferring to pick and sing in a traditional manner, having musical accompaniment was just as important. Marie learned to read and play music through woodwind instruments but plays mandolin with Macrae. Together they traveled out West to find inspiration, write new music and perform, and have been playing in the local area for several weeks at different venues.
From 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15 Grandma’s welcomes back, “Eru,” “Anna,” and Guests performing music and dance from Indonesia. This is an interactive performance where participants can play with the musicians.

The 12th Annual Sizzlin’ Summer Concert Series continues on July 26 with Paisanos performing rock ’n’ roll. The free concert runs from 3 to 6 p.m. except Aug. 23 in Ramona Garden Park in conjunction with the Grover Beach Farmers Market. Entertainment: July 9–22, 2015

The Grover Beach Parks and Recreation Department will welcome Alpha Winds, a youth jazz and concert band who will perform a free outdoor concert in Grover Beach on Friday, July 10 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Ramona Garden Park. The band is from Orange County, California and they will be on their first road trip. They’ll be traveling and performing in several California cities, including; Soledad, Pacific Grove, Monterey, Morro Bay and Grover Beach. The band was formed in 2000 and the members range in age from 10 to 19 years; and all of them are home schooled. They’ll perform a medley of jazz standards including “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing),” “Sing, Sing, Sing,” and a selection of old hits from Ray Charles and Van Morrison. The Magnum Choir will perform several Broadway pieces, as well. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and give these up and coming young musicians a wonderful Central Coast welcome. G Burns Jug BandThe G Burns Jug Band will headline the next Red Barn Community Concert Series in Los Osos, set for 6 p.m. Saturday, July 11. Cost is a $15 donation at the door and all proceeds go to the artists. Doors open at 4:30 and there’s a potluck supper at 5 with the potluck band. Bring a dish to share, place settings and BYOB. The show is held in the South Bay Community Park on Palisades Avenue. San Diego-based, G Burns Jug Band, plays oldtime American music — urban blues, mountain fiddle, and popular music of the 1920s and ‘30s. Since forming in 2012, the Burns’ have quickly become a constant presence in the Southern California music scene and has been the house band at Black Cat Bar since August 2013. In May 2014, they released a debut, self-titled CD and toured the West Coast with Jim Kweskin, Del McCoury, Beausoleil, Rev. Peyton’s Big Damn Band, The Americans and The Earl Brothers.
