The 20th Annual Morro Bay Winter Bird Festival is set for Friday-Monday, Jan. 15-18 in and around Morro Bay and the surrounding environs. The weekend is filled with special events, presentations, a vendor’s fair, and field trips to birding spots throughout SLO County.
Among the special events is keynote speaker, John Marzluff, professor of wildlife science at the University of Washington, set for 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16 at Morro Bay High School. His talk entitled, “Subirdia” is an entertaining look at living with humans from a bird’s perspective.
From 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17 at the Vet’s Hall, 209 Surf St., is a special 20th Anniversary Celebration highlighting long-time festival trip leaders, volunteers and attendees. Also, Family Day, with free or low cost events for families, is set for Saturday, Jan. 16.
Also Saturday is the popular “Meet the Raptors” show with Pacific Wildlife Care volunteers and their educational birds of prey — a falcon, eagle, turkey vulture, owls and more. Show times are 1:30 and 3 p.m. at the Vet’s Hall. See www.morrobaybirdfestival.org for a complete listing of birding walks and events.
