Hooray for Hollywood in Morro Bay has moved two blocks to 845 Embarcadero, Suite F, in The Boatyard shopping complex. The store offers “Entertainment Themed” collectible gifts with something for everyone.

They are getting ready for increased Summer Sales by adding an entire section devoted to the new Pixar sequel film “Finding Dorey” which takes place in Morro Bay. The movie opens nation-wide on June 17th. Hooray for Hollywood is open daily from 11 am – 7 pm. Mindbody, Inc., provider of cloud-based business management software for the wellness services industry, announced financial results for the first quarter ended March 31. 

“We had an excellent start to the year marked by accelerating revenue growth and record gross margins,” said Rick Stollmeyer, co-founder and chief executive officer of MINDBODY. “These results demonstrate the ongoing success of all four components of our recurring revenue growth model, including new subscriber additions.”

Total revenue in the first quarter of 2016 was $32.0 million, a 44% increase year over year. Subscription and services revenue in the quarter was $19.3 million, a 43% increase year over year. For more information visit: mindbodyonline.com.


Arroyo Grande Community Hospital, French Hospital Medical Center, and Marian Regional Medical Center all received a letter grade of “A” on the most recent rating report from The Leapfrog Group, which focuses on patient safety. 

The group awards hospitals based on safety, quality of care, and “value metrics.” The Leapfrog Group scores an “A” to hospitals that achieve the best hospital safety performance score, using a set of 28 national measures.

The Leapfrog Group provides consumers ranked statistics and informative data for selecting a medical center. The premise of the group is to provide accessibility to the public while allowing medical facilities the opportunity to measure improvements.

The San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District’s Hearing Board has two vacancies, a public member and public member alternate and anyone interested has until Thursday, June 2 to apply.

The hearing board is a quasi-judicial body that hears requests from regulated industries for variances from rules; hears requests for emergency variances during prolonged upsets or breakdowns; and other areas of jurisdiction under the State Health and Safety Code. Membership requirements are stipulated in State law and specify the members and alternates consist of an attorney, a registered professional engineer, a member of the medical profession, and two public members.

Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza, opened up last week with 2,400 square foot interior with seating for 52 inside and an additional 42 seats on an exterior patio, Located next to Lassens in the redeveloped University Square complex, Blaze Pizza also plans to open 5 more restaurants on the Central Coast throughout 2016.

The newest Blaze restaurant’s management has a history on the Central Coast. One of it’s owners, Mitch Wolf, has been a Marketing Instructor at Cal Poly for 10 years. Previously he owned the Taco Bell Restaurants in San Luis Obispo.


The 22nd annual San Luis Obispo International Film Festival (SLO Film Fest) was a success, organizers have announced, beating previous records for attendance and ticket and pass sales. Fundraising goals were also exceeded.

The annual cultural event, presented March 15-20 this year, has been steadily growing in popularity. Overall admissions increased to almost 10,000, a 30% gain over last year. Overall ticket sales were up 13%. Movie Star, Fanatic and Weekend pass sales were up an average of 33% and Mogul passes were up 350%.


The Foundation for the Performing Arts Center at Cal Poly announced the recent addition of four new members to its Board of Directors: Sharon Armstrong, Kathleen Choal, Noreen Martin and Honorary member Dr. Brendan “Ben” McAdams.

Additionally, the Foundation welcomes Shannon McGee as its new Marketing and Communications Manager. Sharon Armstrong, “First Lady of Cal Poly,” was an active member of the Foundation’s Encore campaign last year, serving on the planning committee for the Gala event in September; she and husband Cal Poly President Jeffrey Armstrong are also Foundation supporters at the Founders level.

Choal has spent most of her career in the news world, most recently at a sister TV station in Tuscon, AZ, and earned her BA in Journalism at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.  Noreen Martin is a longtime contributing resident of SLO County who has served as past board president of Visit San Luis Obispo County, as current Vice Chairperson for Visit California and is the CEO of Martin Resorts. Dr. Brendan “Ben” McAdams, a notable contributor to the Foundation and the PAC since its inception, joins the board in his newest capacity as an Honorary Board Member.


The SLO Chamber welcomed new member, Wingstop, with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Antonio Swad founded Wingstop in 1997 and by 2002 they had served the world one billion wings.

Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center was one of seven hospitals to receive Tenet Healthcare’s Circle of Excellence award for demonstrating outstanding clinical and operational performance in 2015.

“This prestigious award recognizes Tenet hospitals that have excelled in delivering best-in-class patient care and patient experiences, attained superior satisfaction scores from physicians and employees, and demonstrated outstanding operational performance,” said Eric Evans, president of hospital operations for Tenet. “It is evident that the leadership team and staff are focused on distinguishing their hospital by making safety, service and industry-leading clinical outcomes the cornerstones of their mission. We are pleased to celebrate their accomplishments with this award.”


Cuesta College is now an official Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). The primary criterion for HSI designation for colleges, universities, or systems/districts is a total Hispanic enrollment of at least 25 percent of the total enrollment; Cuesta College is currently at 33 percent. HSI designation is provided through the U.S. Department of Education and allows the college to apply for grants that can help Hispanic and low income students accomplish their educational goals.  

“The Hispanic-Serving Institution designation will allow Cuesta College to continue paving the road to success for hundreds of current and future Latino and Latina students,” said Cuesta College Superintendent/President Dr. Gil Stork. “We hope this designation enhances the work Cuesta College is already doing to support our Hispanic students, including that of our Latino Leadership Network (LLN), Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan (MEChA) student club, the increase of English as a Second Language (ESL) courses at our South County Center in Arroyo Grande, and the continuation of Edúcate – Sí Se Puede, an on-campus conference attended by hundreds of local high school Latino and Latina students each year seeking information about higher education.”


The San Luis Obispo Symphony has added Pam Dassenko, Jessica Hoffman and Barbara Hunter-Spencer to its Board of Directors. They join Board Members: Liz Summer – President, Deanna Richards — Incoming President, India D’Avignon– Past President, Jeff Brady – Treasurer, Fred Friedman– Secretary, Ursula Fitzgerald, David Hamilton, Cindy-Marie Absey, Mary Tanner, Linda Parker Sanpei, Sandi Sigurdson, Diane Heath and Dwyne Willis.

Directors Fred Friedman, Diane Heath and India D’Avignon will complete their terms at the end of June.
