Alleged Cutthroat Woman Arrested

A San Luis Obispo woman was arrested and charged with suspicion of attempted murder after she allegedly stabbed her boyfriend in the neck on a trail up Bishop’s Peak.

According to Sheriff’s spokesman, Tony Cipolla, they received numerous 9-1-1 calls at about 6:45 p.m. Saturday, June 17 reporting a man bleeding from a neck wound on the trailhead to Bishop’s Peak off Foothill Boulevard.

“Deputies immediately responded and found a man with a large laceration across his neck,” Cipolla said in a news release. “The man had told witnesses at the scene that his girlfriend had cut his throat.”

Cipolla said a passing emergency medical technician, who was on his or her way to work, stopped and was rendering aid to the victim, described as a 55-year-old Atascadero man, when officers arrived.

The man was transported to the hospital via ambulance. He was treated and released later that night.

Cipolla said Sheriff’s deputies and detectives began a search of the area looking for the suspect. They then got more reports of a woman seen running away from the scene of the alleged attack and into the neighborhood off Cerro Romauldo Avenue.

“San Luis Obispo Police officers located the female,” Cipolla said, “hiding in some bushes and was identified as the suspect in this case.”

Deputies arrested Erika Christine Deherrera, 40 of San Luis Obispo and booked her into County Jail for suspicion of attempted murder. Cipolla said their investigation was ongoing and had no information on what may have led the woman to allegedly try and kill her boyfriend.
