Big Award for Big Brothers, Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Luis Obispo County was recently given a pretty big honor at the organization’s big National Conference.

The local BBBS was one of six agencies recognized during the 2016 National Conference Gala held in Orlando, Fla., in late June. The local folks were recognized as “Agency of the Year” in the small to mid-sized agency alliance category. The award came for “building strategy that led to diversified funding and low employee turnover helping to provide the best leadership for their community,” reads a news release.

Board President, Christie Clemons, said, “It’s wonderful to be recognized as best in the nation. But this award, and the life-changing work we do, wouldn’t be possible at all without on-going support from so many individuals and local businesses throughout San Luis Obispo County. The real congratulations go not just to us, but to every one of our volunteers and donors.

“I also want to add that we are very fortunate to have an exceptional staff that is proactive, hardworking and thorough. They are an extremely dedicated team.”
The head of the nationwide organization offered praise, as well. “These agencies and boards show extraordinary leadership and have huge impacts in the communities they serve,” said Pam Iorio, president and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, with over 300 agencies across the country, Big Brothers Big Sisters serves nearly 170,000 children, their families and 170,000 volunteer mentors.
