Big Change at Hwy 101/LOVR

IMG_3046-600x500There’s been a major change made to the interchange at Hwy 101 and Los Osos Valley Road, Caltrans announced.
As of April 14, there is a new off ramp on the southbound side of the highway. Instead of exiting the freeway at LOVR, it will exit at Calle Joaquin, a quarter mile up the freeway. The temporary off ramp set up will stay in place until at least next February, Caltrans said. “The relocation is necessary to allow work in Prefumo Creek in conjunction with the LOVR interchange project.”
That street dead-ends in a cul-de-sac, and Caltrans is going to prohibit northbound traffic from that area and make it a one way coming off the highway.
The entire construction project that has been going on seemingly forever, has created some serious traffic snarls, especially with traffic backing up on the northbound off ramp into the freeway and on LOVR back to Higuera Street.
Later in August, some additional changes will take place at the interchange, Caltrans said. “From Aug. 24-27, the existing U.S. 101 southbound on-ramp will be closed and detours will be in place. This closure will allow the contractor to raise the elevation of the existing SB ramp/LOVR intersection approximately 5 feet.
“On Aug. 28, both west and eastbound LOVR traffic will switch to the new LOVR bridge. The southbound on-ramp will also open in its new configuration but will only be accessible from eastbound LOVR.”
Essentially, the job will put in a second highway overpass (already erected), and redirect the on and off ramps.
Readers are advised to just keep away from this intersection at all costs.
