Cayucos Shooter Wins Title

Cayucos’ dead-eye shot repeated his winning ways at a recent shooting event in SLO County.

Trenton Mitsuoka said he repeated as the World Champion in the Rimfire Rifle Optics Division at the World Speed Shooting Championships, held at the Hogue Action Pistol Range, located on Hwy 1 between Morro Bay and Cuesta College.

Mitsuoka becomes a 2-time World Speed Shooting Champion in his division, adding to a growing list of accomplishments for someone relatively new to the sport.

Previously, he placed third in March 2016 at the Smith & Wesson Steel Nationals held in Florida; was third overall at last April’s Lonestar Rimfire Challenge in Texas; second at the Old Fort Rimfire Challenge held in May in Arkansas; and first in the 2-Gun Rimfire Master’s Division at June’s West Coast Steel Championships in Piru, Calif.

And at the most recent event in August, he took first in Rimfire Rifle Optics, fifth in Rimfire Pistol Optics, ninth in the Open Division, third in Overall Combined (behind legendary Max Michel and teenage prodigy Kolby Pavlock — both superstars of the sport) on the road to the championship.
