Afternoon of Epicurean Delights is honored that Sheriff Ian Parkinson will be the poolside MC for the event at the historic Chapman House by the Sea in Shell Beach on Sunday, June 5. Tickets are still available and may be purchased from the website: aed.capslo.org; Crushed Grape in San Luis Obispo; SLO Chamber of Commerce; Pismo Beach Chamber of Commerce; Arroyo Grande/Grover Beach Chamber of Commerce; or directly from the Community Action Partnership Health & Prevention office: phone (805) 544-2498. Guests are invited to stroll through the gardens of the estate, enjoy panoramic ocean views, all while tasting the wares of over 50 of SLO County’s most renowned and award winning restaurants, caterers, wineries, breweries, and confectioners. 

Visitors will enjoy performances by Kristen Black Band, Hot Club of SLO, Tim Jackson, David Lynch, The Lucky Nines, and Ortega Band. Proceeds benefit the Health & Prevention Division of Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo County (CAPSLO).   Last year, Health and Prevention provided services to over 11,000 women, men, youth, and under-served families in San Luis Obispo and northern Santa Barbara counties through health, education, and advocacy services and programs.  There will be shuttles at two sites:  Shell Beach Elementary School and Pismo Beach City Hall on Mattie Rd.  If guests do not live in Shell Beach, the City of Pismo Beach requests that guests ride one of the complimentary shuttles.  Shuttles start running at 11 a.m. and the event gates open at 11:30 a.m.

The City of Grover Beach and the Grover Beach Parks, Recreation and Beautification Commission invites the public to participate in the Annual Spring Garden Tour and Plant Exchange and the new feature a Garden Expo at Ramona Garden Park, 993 Ramona Ave., to be held on Saturday, June 4.

New for 2016, there will be a Garden Expo offered as part of the Plant Exchange from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. This event is free to the public and will include plenty of information from local vendors and professionals to germinate some water wise landscaping ideas for your own yard! Bring a plant or cutting and exchange it for a new or different plant at the Plant Exchange (also at Ramona Garden Park) and get your gardening questions answered by local master gardeners and other experts.

Several local Grover Beach residents have opened their yards for viewing on the self-guided Spring Garden Tour, with maps available to download from the City of Grover Beach website: www.grover.org after Wednesday, May 25, or on Facebook. The Tour will be held from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. rain or shine.

The County Public Library System is gearing up for its summer reading program, “On Your Mark, Get Set, Read,” which kicks off on Saturday, June 11 at library branches throughout SLO County. Activities will include over 60 free concerts, animal shows, bubble science, magic shows, and other great shows for kids of all ages. The 2016 Summer Reading Program is open to kids through high school age, with programs, prize drawings, story times, and more. All kids who enroll will get a free swim pass for the SLO Swim Center. Art Central, 1329 Monterey St., SLO has a new show, “The Human Form,” featuring artworks that portray the human figure in a variety of mediums. An opening reception is set for 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 3, free and open to the public. The show runs through June 27.

Join the SWAP Weed Warriors for its monthly battle against weeds and erosion in the Elfin Forest in Los Osos. Meet at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 4 at the end of 15th St., off Santa Ysabel Ave., Los Osos. Dress in layers for the weather and wear sturdy shoes, long pants and sleeves, bring gloves and a shovel. Don’t block driveways when you park and leave pets at home. Estero Bay United Methodist Church’s 5th Annual Car Show is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 4 at the church, 3000 Hemlock Ave., Morro Bay. A pancake breakfast is from 7-10:30 a.m. for $5; barbecue hot dog and chili lunch from 11-2; bake sale, raffles, a cake walk, children’s activities, awards, great cars (10-3) and live music. Morro Bay walkers are invited to take part in a Walking Safety Audit from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, June 21. Sponsors are the City, Lions Club, Morro Bay in Bloom and the California Office of Traffic Safety. Volunteers will walk the City and look for safety issues for pedestrians. If you’d like to go along, contact the Senior Center at 772-4421 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.

The San Luis Obispo County Genealogical Society’s next meeting is set for noon Saturday, June 4 at the I.O.O.F. Hall, 520 Dana St., SLO. D. Joshua Taylor of PBS TV’s “Genealogy Roadshow” will share a unique look into the behind-the-scenes research behind the TV show. The third season of the show starts May 17 on PBS. Morro Bay Police officers will be hosting a Tip-a-Cop Lunch to benefit the Special Olympics Torch Run, set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, June 3 at the Morro Bay Police Station, 850 Morro Bay Blvd. Cost is $10 per lunch and includes barbecued tri tip sandwiches, chips, a drink and a cookie. Officers will hustle around for tips to add to the benefit. Drop in with co-workers for lunch or officers will deliver upon request. Call Cmdr. The next Cayucos Library First Monday Used Book Sale is set for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, June 6 at the Cayucos Library, 310 B St. There will be bargains on cookbooks, coffee table books, fiction and non-fiction, as well as CDs and DVDs, all just $1 each. Paperbacks are 25-cents each or five for $1. Proceeds benefit the Cayucos Library and the Friends of the Cayucos Library’s community programs.

Cal Poly students, alumni, and fans are sure to love a limited edition print by famed artist, Steve Thomas, being sold now at the Cal Poly Store, located in the University Union and online at: calpolystore.com (type “limited edition print” in the search window). The high quality, 12-inch by 18-in., prints signed by the artist are $150 unframed and $190 framed. Thomas is noted for his work with Star Wars, the State and National Parks, Disney, and Clif Bar. Thomas’ print has a retro-futuristic style, with a majestic skyline and distinguished university entrance incorporated into the piece. “I’ve always been drawn to the graphic style of the early 20th Century advertising art,” Thomas said, “a time when travel posters beckoned visitors to come and see foreign and local wonders.”

Morro Bay fisherman’s wife, M.J. Munro will sign her book, “Porpoise in Quicksilver: Chronicles of a Highliners Wife,” from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, June 4 at Coalesce Bookstore Chapel, 845 Main St., Morro Bay. In the book, “Bailey,” the mother of three boys and a young girl, lives a contented life with her husband Ty who shocks her when he announces he’s quitting his well-paid desk job, buying a boat, and going commercial fishing. A reluctant Bailey finds herself forced to adapt to the life of a fisherman’s wife, watching the waves and hoping the ocean delivers Ty safely home. Munro is a fourth generation SLO County native and one time reporter for the Morro Bay Sun Newspaper back in the 1960s. She is a fisherman’s wife who raised five children while her husband chased albacore and salmon up and down the West Coast. She now lives in Arroyo Grande. “Porpoise in Quicksilver” is a fictionalized tale of West Coast commercial fishing in its mid-20th Century heyday, set in a town very much like Morro Bay.

Trinity United Methodist Church, 490 LOVR, Los Osos is hosting a “Black Lives Matter” event at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 6. There will be workshops and spiritual reflection. All ages welcome, donations accepted. Looking for a chance to discuss race relations with people who care? There will be short videos and interactive conversation on race for youth, teens and adults. Dist. 2 County Supervisor Bruce Gibson canceled his scheduled June 1 office hours at the Cayucos Library and will next be in residence from 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, July 6 at the library. Depending on the outcome of the June Primary Election wherein Cayucos residents are being asked to greatly increase the local fire tax, residents might have something to speak to the Supervisor about. That and the status of the Vet’s Hall, which is closed indefinitely until major structural repairs can be made. Gibson’s office email is: [email protected].

Morro Bay Artist Association will present an art demonstration, “Framing Your Art” with local artists, Ron Myers and plein air painter, Mimi Whitney-Hafft from 3-5 p.m. Monday, June 13 at the Art Center Gallery, 835 Main St., Morro Bay. Free and open to the public. Myers and Whitney-Hafft will talk about picture frames and their importance to the presentation of artworks. Art Center is open daily, noon-4 p.m. and features a variety of styles and mediums by a myriad of local artists.

The Morro Bay Artist Association is offering children’s summer art classes for kids 7-12-years old from 1-3 p.m. Saturdays, June 16 and 23 at the Art Center Gallery, 835 Main St. Cost is $15 per student and the teacher is Jeanne Provensen. A 3-day session for parents and students (7-12) is set for 1-3 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, June 12-14. Cost is $15 per student and $30 maximum per family. Teacher is Kathy Beaton. Art classes with Tom Winans for middle and high school students (13-18) will be from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesday-Thursday, Aug. 3-4; and 1-3 p.m. Thursday-Friday, Aug. 11-12.
