Cuesta Holding Promise Day

San Luis Obispo County high school seniors are invited to Cuesta College’s 3rd Annual Promise Day at the Hwy 1 campus, set for 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21.

The free event is a chance to learn about Cuesta’s “career technical education” and academic programs from faculty, admissions and financial aid representatives, and to discuss campus life with current students.

Information will also be provided on scholarships, including the Promise Scholarship, which guarantees a fee-free full year of college to all recently graduated SLO County high school students.

Lunch, campus tours and giveaways will be included. In addition, dozens of college faculty members will showcase their programs via hands-on booths in areas like welding, construction, nursing and more. For more information on this free event or to RSVP, contact your local high school, or the Cuesta Advancement Office at (805) 546-3279, by Oct. 12.

The 2017-18 Cuesta Promise Scholarship application period opens in January 2017. The Cuesta Promise is the result of a private donation of more than $8 million to the Cuesta College Foundation from the Charles and Leeta Dovica Family Trust, who requested the funds be used for scholarships.

Created in the fall of 2013, the endowment currently saves students an average of $1,400 in their first year at Cuesta College. And the college now offers the “Cambria Promise,” which offers a second year fee-free to all recently graduated students of Coast Unified School District. The Cambria Promise is the result of a private donation of $20,000 to the Cuesta Foundation announced in June 2016.
