Free Public Open House at Avila Pier and Research Facility

Cal Poly will hold a free, public open house at its pier and research facility in Avila Beach from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Oct. 29. There will be touch tanks full of live marine creatures, microscopes for viewing ultra-small critters, and other interactive displays. Kids can put their face in the water and breathe through a scuba respirator, learn why whales migrate, and find out what a “red tide” is. This is a walking tour and the pier is over a half-mile long (1.2-mile round trip), so wear appropriate shoes and clothing. Rain cancels.
