Felon Arrested with Handgun

A convicted felon was arrested by San Luis Obispo Police in connection with a non-injury shooting incident that led to officers discovering their suspect was a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and other suspected stolen merchandise.
San Luis Obispo Sgt. Chad Pfarr said in a news release, that on the afternoon of Friday, Jan. 16, SLOPD got a report of a possible shooting in a vacant field near the Los Verdes Condos on Los Osos Valley Road. The citizen who reported the incident told police the shooting had occurred in the early morning of Thursday, Jan. 15. There were no injuries reported in the incident, said Sgt. Pfarr.
Officers obtained surveillance video from a nearby camera and were able to identify a local man and the vehicle he was driving at the time, “as being involved in the shooting,” said Sgt. Pfarr.
Police said the suspect, a known felon, was well known to them and officers staked out places where he was known to frequent and at 5:15 p.m. on the 16th that paid off with an arrest, when the man, identified as Matthew Spicer, 33 of SLO, was located on Suburban Lane behind the Food 4 Less store.
They also found the vehicle allegedly seen in the surveillance video a short distance away on Suburban at Horizon.
Sgt. Pfarr said, “A motor home used by Spicer was also located. A search of both vehicles revealed several items of suspected and confirmed stolen property from cases currently being investigated by the police department.” Sgt. Pfarr said Spicer was living in the RV.
They also found a handgun that police believe was allegedly used in the shooting incident that turned out to be stolen in a November 2015 home burglary case.
Spicer was booked into County Jail charged with suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, possessing stolen property and being under the influence of a controlled substance. His bail was set at $20,000.
