was occupied by a male back into a driveway of a residence in the 1100 block of Farroll Rd.

As the officer approached the truck, the driver, Richard Joe Hanson, 38, a transient, reportedly accelerated the truck and drove it toward the officer. According to a news release, the officer was nearly struck but was able to jump out of the way.

Hanson led officers on a chase through Grover Beach, Arroyo Grande, and Oceano before driving northbound on highway 101 at speeds up to 90 miles per hour, according to the release.

A spike strip was successfully deployed in Atascadero and Hanson exited the highway and came to a stop on El Camino Real at San Rafael St where he was taken into custody.

No accidents or injuries resulted from this incident.  Assisting agencies were Arroyo Grande Police, Pismo Beach Police, CHP, Atascadero Police and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriffs.

Hanson was arrested on suspicion of felony evading an officer, felony attempted assault with a dead weapon on an officer, driving under the influence of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on a suspended license, probation violation, and for having a no-bail felony warrant.   He was booked at the San Luis Obispo County Jail without bail.
