Jimi Macon Tribute, Oct. 29

A celebration of life for the late, great guitarist, Jimi Macon, is set for noon-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at Sea Pines Golf Resort in Los Osos.

There will be sharing of Jimi Macon stories by his friends and family; the music starts with Brass Mash and then Zongo Allstars. There’s a Halloween costume contest and an all-star jam, too.

All musicians who played with Jimi Macon are invited to bring their axes and join the show.

Jimi Macon died Sept. 16, leaving behind a long legacy of great music. For many years, Jimi Macon lived in Morro Bay, popping up often with many different bands and performers when he wasn’t on the road or recording in studio.

A uniquely styled guitarist, Jimi Macon got famous as a member of The Gap Band from 1977-89 and over the years played and recorded with numerous musicians, Natalie Cole, Bobby Womack, Anita Baker, James Brown, The Temptations and many others.
