‘Morro Bay Sings Motown’ a Roaring Success

The recent “Morro Bay Sings Motown” supper-dance-concert was a smashing success as hundreds packed the Community Center Saturday, Nov. 7 to hear local musicians perform Motown hits from the 1960s and ‘70s. The event raised some $16,000 for the Community Foundation, according to Marlene Peter, a member of the Foundation board.
Performers were Jody Mulgrew, Green to White and Captain Nasty Band. Shawna Marie, lead singer for Captain Nasty, joined Mulgrew on stage for several duets. The show was produced by Mitch Barnett and made possible with the help of numerous volunteers and donations from the business community. Among the biggest donors were David and Aglaja Peter owners of The Galley Seafood Grill & Bar, who provided the soup and salad supper. The Community Foundation raises money to provide scholarships to under-privileged children so they can participate in the City’s recreation sports programs.
