Morro Bay Thanksgiving Dinner Set

Thanks to some dedicated volunteers, there will be a free, Community Thanksgiving Dinner in Morro Bay again this year. And home-bound residents can also get a full turkey and all the trimmings dinner delivered on turkey day.

Nancy Castle and Chuck Stoll stepped up to the plate this year to lead numerous volunteers in the monumental effort to cook and put on a dinner for hundreds of people. The dinner is set for 1-3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 26 at the Community Center, 1001 Kennedy Way, Morro Bay.

Castle said they do still need some help with the decorating, serving, clean up or even singing, juggling and leading the Hokey Pokey. And when you come to eat, bring a food donation — canned or non-perishables — to be used at the weekly Monday night dinners at the Vet’s Hall and for the Salvation Army.

If readers want to pitch in, or if you’d like a dinner delivered, call the Morro Bay Seniors at 772-4421. They could use some cash too.

The dinner is hosted by the Morro Bay Peace Officers’ Association, Morro Bay Seniors, and Art Goes Places with a number of local businesses donating to and supporting the dinner.

Sponsors include Albertsons, The Inn at Morro Bay, the Lions Club, Guerilla Gardening Club, Top Dog Coffee, Kitzman Culligan Water, Cookie Crock, Miner’s Ace Hardware, St. Peter’s by the Sea Episcopal Church, Mission Linen, Eco Rotary Club, Estero Bay United Methodist Church, Dorn’s Restaurant, the Historical Society of Morro Bay, and the City of Morro Bay.

The free dinners go back many years and have been a major charitable effort for the MBPOA, local Boy Scouts, the Seniors, and the Rotary Club. Castle said the Rotary Club isn’t “officially” involved this year but many of its members are volunteering anyway.
