New Trees Planted

The final nail chapter of the great cactus caper played out Oct. 17, when volunteers from Morro Bay in Bloom, the City Tree Committee and Guerilla Gardeners uprooted the remaining spineless cacti from street tree wells and replaced them with new, appropriate trees from the City’s approved tree list in celebration of Arbor Day.

But while the cacti in the sidewalks are now (mostly) gone, a new menace has arisen — cactus in pots hanging high in the air on utility poles, which we’re told is a craze in Europe with guerilla gardening clubs across the pond. In the photos are volunteer tree planters. Submitted photos
