One Store Stung in Sting

A Downtown SLO mini mart got stung in a minor decoy sting run by San Luis Obispo Police and State Alcoholic Beverage Control agents, and the offending store might face the consequences.

According to a news release from SLOPD Sgt. Aaron Shafer, from 3-9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12 they sent an under-aged decoy around to numerous ABC licensed establishments trying to buy hooch and only the 7-Eleven store at 1301 Monterey St., fell for it.

The clerk sold to the decoy and Sgt. Shafer said the store faces administrative review by ABC and “The business could receive a fine or a suspension of their alcohol license.”

“The San Luis Obispo Police Department urges all licensed establishments to carefully check the ID’s of all individuals who appear to be younger than 30-years of age,” Sgt. Shafer said.

The sting is part of ABC’s Education and Teen Alcohol Enforcement Program, and was funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
