PG&E Hands Over $25,000 Grant to Octagon Barn

The Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County was recently awarded a $25,000 grant from Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) to support the creation of the Octagon Barn Center.

The Octagon Barn in was identified as a good fit for the grant based on educational opportunities that will be provided at the Center, targeted support to underserved populations in the county, and impact to the community that the completed Octagon Barn Center will provide. The Octagon Barn Center is planned to  become the future trailhead for the Bob Jones City-to- Sea bike path, allowing enhanced recreation and safety for the community.

Ed Halpin, Senior Vice President of Generation and Chief Nuclear Officer for PG&E made a press statement: “At PG&E, we strongly believe in strengthening and giving back to the communities we have the privilege to serve. Our local employees care deeply about this community, and providing this grant meets their desire to support the Bob Jones Trail and the Octagon Barn Center. It’s a terrific project, and we are honored to lend a helping hand and to be part of a true a legacy for our county.”

The Land Conservancy is seeking $350,000 by the end of Summer 2017 to complete its $5.5 million Octagon Barn Center funding goal.

Project leaders say that this gap must be filled by local community funding sources including contributions from individuals, businesses and family foundations. Construction has already begun on the site.
