Police Dog Training Event

The County Sheriff’s K9 Units hosted a training day for police dog teams from all over California on May 9, in conjunction with the California Narcotic Canine Association. The event allowed K9’s to be trained and certified in the areas of patrol, narcotics and explosives detection. The dogs and handlers participated in several training scenarios at the old Youth Authority facility in Paso Robles. Some 51 K9’s took part in the training exercises including the SLO County Sheriff’s six teams. They also came from Fresno County, Monterey County, and Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Offices, as well as police departments from Napa, Bakersfield, and Santa Maria among numerous others. The Canine Association provides the certification training and is represented in 17 states and five countries, and consists of almost 1,000 members of law enforcement.
