Poly Poinsettias for Purchase

Cal Poly’s annual holiday poinsettia sale kicked off Dec. 1 and will continue through the middle of the month when they sell out. They’ve got more than 2,000 plants of more than 30 cultivars — from classic reds and whites to speckled, pink, and orange varieties.

Sizes range from small plants in 4-inch pots, to large poinsettias reaching 4-feet tall. Prices are $5 to $55.

The Poly Plant Shop is located on campus off of Via Carta Road — take the Highland Drive entrance off Hwy 1, turn left on Via Carta Road, and go to the top of the hill. The plant shop is open Mondays-Fridays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 10-4 Saturdays-Sundays. Call (805) 756-1106 to make sure they haven’t sold out already or see: www.polyplantshop.com for more information.

The traditional holiday plants are grown by students in the Poinsettia Agriculture Enterprise Project, which begins in the spring.

Six students, all majoring in agricultural and environmental plant sciences, are overseeing the poinsettia project, they are: Jacob Mattlin, Allana Childs, Jonathan Briggs, Gage Willey, Killian Vendler and Cody Martinez. Horticulture unit manager, Christopher Wassenberg, oversees the program.
