Before the birthday girl arrived, owner Nan Fowler and crew set up balloons and a sweet treat with a candle in it.

“It was pleasure to meet a young girl that has learned the joy of reading,” said Fowler.

Loralei starting reading in preschool and has read hundreds of books. She said her favorite author is Roald Dahl because his books “help her imagination and she enjoys seeing what others see and write about.”  But, be warned, she doesn’t like movies made from books because the “books are always better.”

The soon to be seventh grader has been writing stories for years and illustrates them as well.  She has entered her work in local authors fair since the 4th grade.

In addition to reading, Loralei likes to tap dance and play the guitar.

They probably won’t have balloons waiting for you, but visit Nan’s at 1328 West Grand Avenue in Grover Beach or call them at 805-489-7510.
