Summer Fun At Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market

Farmers-FB-profile-300x300July has arrived and summer is now in full swing. With Fourth of July only a few days away, it is time to stock up on the barbeque essentials and festive American decorations and apparel. After the Fourth, be ready to continue the festivities at the Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market. Similar to our favorite July holiday, barbequed ribs, fresh produce, locally made products and live entertainment can all be found on Higuera Street each Thursday evening at The Market.

The Fresh Picked Concert Series presented by the San Luis Obispo Collection with support from Union Bank will continue this July with Burning James and the Funky Flames on July 7th.  Also, for those looking to further celebrate our nation’s birth, the San Luis Obispo County Band will be a highlight. The San Luis Obispo County Band, performing on July 21st, is rooted in our San Luis Obispo history. They are an all ages community band, established in 1881. Performing now for over 130 years, the band developed from the San Luis Obispo Military Band and has since then been affiliated with the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Cuesta College. Today, this large ensemble band is made up of over 60 members who come from all over the county and play a variety of woodwind, percussion and brass instruments.

For those not able to make their European getaway this summer, Three for Joy will bring a bit of Irish charm to The Market. Three for Joy is also performing on July 21st and is a Celtic music and Irish dance band comprised of three siblings: Angela Rose (7 years old), Joseph (9) and Dominic(11) Padula.  Their performance incorporates music from the cello, mandolin and fiddle to create traditional Celtic tunes. These tunes are inspired by Scottish, Irish and Cape Breton music that is then paired with Irish dancing by the three siblings.

Other performers this month include; Lord of Cello, a dynamic musical experience; Alex Clark, a comedian and juggler; Kaylee Smith, a pop/country performer; Crustacea Jazz Band, a New Orleans style jazz group and many more. Come Discover Local Flavor this summer at Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market with beautiful sunshine, live music and food!
