Cayucos Cal Fire Sta. 11 to Close

CayucosCFCayucos residents will lose a little fire protection for a few weeks after Cal Fire announced it would close its Cayucos Station 11 on the south end of town.
Cal Fire/County Fire Chief Bob Lewin announced March 27 that the so-called “Amador” agreement with the Cayucos Fire Protection District had been ended early by the district and the station will close April 1. Continue reading Cayucos Cal Fire Sta. 11 to Close

Masons Honor Firefighters

The King David’s Masonic Lodge in SLO recently honored several local firefighters ‘for exemplary community service’ at a gala dinner in the Downtown Lodge. Honorees included reserve firefighter/EMT Nathan Ditmore of the Morro Bay Fire Department; Capt. Greg Alex and Research Analyst, Joe Larson with Cal Fire/County Fire, and Engineer/Paramedic Jason Pratt with San Luis Obispo City Fire Department. The lodge also made a $2,500 donation the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation in honor of the firefighters. Each honoree received a framed certificate of recognition. State Lets Transportation Monies

CARSA troublesome stretch of Hwy 1 will finally have the money to get moved inland after the California Transportation Commission allocated $174.8 million to 85 transportation projects statewide to repair aging roads and bridges, alleviate traffic delays and support job growth, the CTC announced last week.
These allocations included nearly $19 million from the Active Transportation Program that will go towards 50 bike and pedestrian projects throughout the state, though none are in San Luis Obispo County. Continue reading State Lets Transportation Monies

Blues Society Brings Headliners

IMG_2327The San Luis Obispo Blues Society presented the Sugaray Rayford Band and Code Blues for a memorable dance hall event Jan. 24. The Sugaray Rayford Band is a big blues band, made up of some of LA’s best blues musicians. Code Blues is a West Coast band dedicated to expressing the blues with honesty, integrity, intensity and a little bit of merriment. Tickets for SLO Blues Society events are sold at the door, and may also be purchased at Boo Boo Records and Cheap Thrills in San Luis Obispo.

Republican Women Donate to Honor Flight

COMM BN RepubWmnDonateThe Estero Bay Republican Federated recently donated $1,500 to Honor Flight, the organization that takes World War II and Korean War veterans to Washington D.C. to tour the nation’s war memorials. The donation will pay for one veteran’s trp. Club members donated the money. Honor Flight began in 2005 in Springfield, Ohio. A Central Coast Honor Flight was started in December 2013. Since that time, Honor Flight Central Coast of California has flown 100 veterans to D.C., and plans more flights this year.
