Torch Passed for Musical Review Fundraiser

Phyllis Madonna, has “passed the torch” of management for her annual, wildly successful “Musical Revue and Fashion Show” that benefits the Women’s Shelter Program of San Luis Obispo County, and has also created the “Phyllis Madonna Legacy Fund.”

The change comes in anticipation of the 2018 fundraiser, which will be renamed, “The Women’s Shelter Program Musical Revue & Fashion Show.” The show has raised several million dollars in its 30-year run to support services to survivors of domestic violence and child abuse in SLO County.

While Madonna will no longer perform in the show, many aspects of the show will feel very familiar to long-time attendees, WSP said in a news release. The event is again set for the first weekend in March (March 2-3) at the Alex Madonna Expo Center.

“I can’t believe it has been 30 years of producing this show for the Women’s Shelter,” said Madonna in a press statement. “And may I hug and say ‘Thank you’ to each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart. I am thrilled to pass on my beloved musical revue and fashion show into the capable and loving hands of the Women’s Shelter Program. May your generous support continue for many years to come.”

WSP Board Member, Toni Detz, will chair the 2018 show. Cheri Humphrey, a long-time musical revue and fashion show producer from the Madonna Inn Boutique, will once again lead the production along with a team of volunteers.

“I am very excited about this transition,” Humphrey said, “and so happy that the Women’s Shelter Program will continue to carry on for 2018 what Phyllis Madonna began 30-years ago. And, yes, Mrs. Madonna will have her table at the end of the runway this year, cheering on the cast as they perform.”
