Grover Beach Police Department issued one misdemeanor in a compliance check of 11 stores that sell alcohol.

On September 23, the Grover Beach Police Department, with the assistance of an agent from the California Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC), conducted the first of several planned Alcohol Enforcement Operations in the city. Officers utilized a person under the age of 21 to enter eleven alcohol retail establishments in an attempt to purchase alcoholic beverages from the stores. Of the eleven stores that were a part of the operation, only one, Kautz Chevron located at 1284 W. Grand Avenue, violated the alcohol beverage laws. The clerk from Kautz Chevron failed to follow proper procedure and completed a sales transaction to the minor. The clerk was issued a misdemeanor citation for the violation and the store was notified of the violation.

The Alcohol Enforcement Operations are being conducted throughout the city as part of a grant to the police department in order to reduce alcohol violations in Grover Beach. The State of California Alcohol Beverage Control awarded the grant back in August 2016, to reduce the number of alcoholic beverage sales to minors, obviously intoxicated patrons, illegal solicitations of alcohol, and other criminal activities such as the sale and possession of illegal drugs.

Though this enforcement operation resulted in one violation, it is important to note that ten other establishments followed proper procedures and laws and did not sell alcohol to the minor, stated a news release.
