Burn Ban Lifted

Cal Fire has ended its burn permit suspension for San Luis Obispo County as of Friday, Nov 4, Unit Chief Scotty Jalbert announced.

Chief Jalbert said people with current and valid agriculture burn permits can resume burning “on permissible burn days only.”

Backyard burning is still not permitted, he said, until peak fire season is over. Also, all burning must be inspected and permitted by Cal Fire before burning until the end of the peak fire season.

A valid permit from the Air Pollution Control District is also required for all burning.

The recent rains and cooler temps have helped ease the threat of wildfires, the area is still very dry and Cal Fire urges everyone use caution while conducting burns. You are responsible for tending any ag fire you started and must adhere to the conditions of the Cal Fire and APCD permits. “Property owners may be held liable if a fire escapes their control and/or burns the property of a neighbor,” Chief Jalbert said.

Contact APCD’s Compliance Division at (805) 781-5912 for information on their permit program or online at: www.slocleanair.org/burning/agburning.php.

Once fire season is officially closed, as decided by Cal Fire, just APCD permits will be required for agricultural burns. Property can confirm the burn day status by calling (800) 834-2876. Burns are allowed only on burn days. For more information on how to safely burn outdoors see: www.PreventWildfireCA.org.
