With 21 Grizzly Academy cadets supplying the youthful muscles and 15 Celebrate Los Osos volunteers overseeing the work, all the boats stored at Cuesta Inlet in Los Osos were inspected for compliance with the rules, and only three had to be removed and scrapped.
The Grizzlies and Celebrators noted 221 boats — 74 canoes, 101 kayaks, 13 dinghies, 29 sailboats and three boards — were being stored on what is private property. The owners have agreed to let the long-time use continue so long as each boat that needs to be license through DMV is, and all the boats have contact information permanently affixed to the hull.
In the photos, Grizzly Academy cadets lift, drag, float and pull boats to a roll off dumpster and a fateful final voyage to the dump. Cadets and volunteers also picked up broken chairs, beer bottles, trash, and bits of lumber.
