Embarcadero Inn Sold in Motel Shake-up

Embarcadero Inn photos 014 (2)There’s been a shake-up in ownership at three Morro Bay motels, changing hands from one local family to another local family.
Joan and John Solu, who were owners of the Beach Bungalow Inn and Suites and the Pleasant Inn, sold both those properties and bought the Embarcadero Inn from the Biaggini Family.
“The Embarcadero Inn is still family owned,” explained Joan Solu. “It’s just a new family and we plan on continuing the spirit of generosity to the community that both the Biaggini Family and our family have always felt so strongly about.”
Though located on the Embarcadero, the Inn sits on private property and isn’t one of the City’s tidelands lease sites like with the Estero, Grays and Anderson Inns on the west side of the street.
The Solu’s bought the 33-room Embarcadero Inn, located at 456 Embarcadero, in July and plan to start a renovation in a few months, family_suite_200a (2)just as they did previously with the Beach Bungalows and the Pleasant Inn when they purchased those properties.
Joan recalled that they came here in June 1998 and bought the Villager Motel, at Main and Beach streets. They bought the Days Inn (formerly the Harbor House) located across the street out of bankruptcy and owned it for 10 years. They bought the really old former Sand Piper Motel (corner of Morro Avenue and Beach Street) and remodeled it into the Beach Bungalows Inn & Suites in the early 2000s.
The Bungalows were sold to John Patel and his wife, Maria Erickson, and daughter Anna this past January, she said.
The Pleasant, located at Harbor and Morro, another early motel, was also renovated and updated by the Solus. Both are popular motels in prime locations.

With the Embarcadero Inn, built by father-son team Harold and Ed Biaggini in 1986, they take over one of the nicest motels in town, with rooms that overlook the harbor.
“This is a lovely Inn full of fantastic amenities in a super location,” she said. “The staff is incredible and we were fortunate to inherit the professional team that was in place with the Biaggini family.”
Joan Solu said the planned renovations would “brighten the exterior and interior, introduce boutique lodging aspects and create cozy seaside rooms, while carefully preserving the warm, family feeling that has kept guests happy and returning for years.
“It will be the same incredible location where every room has a view of the bay. It’s a spot that Morro Bay visitors have loved since 1986, but it’s going to take on a whole new glow and luster.”
They hope the renovations will be completed in time for the holiday season. Each room at the Inn has a view of the bay, Solu said, and there are several suites including a family suite that has a full kitchen, and room for a family of six. Dog-friendly, the Embarcadero Inn welcomes “well-behaved canine traveling companions.”
