Cayucos Man’s Death of Natural Causes

The Cayucos man who died Aug. 8 on a hiking trail in the Cayucos hills has been identified and an official cause of death determined.
The County Coroner’s Office said Steven Lynn Weaver, 63, died Aug. 8 of natural causes while walking a hillside trail near Gilbert Avenue.
The coroner said there was no sign that he’d been attacked by a mountain lion. “Weaver’s body did exhibit animal related injuries to three fingers on his right hand, but it has been determined those injuries were post mortem, or after his death.
“In addition, investigators have found and State Fish and Wildlife officials have confirmed, the injuries were caused by a small carrion feeder, possibly a skunk or raccoon, based on the size of the bite marks on the victim’s hand.”
