An Arroyo Grande man was arrested for suspicion of burglary after he allegedly entered the home of a woman and was detained by vigilant neighbors after he tried to get away.
According to Sheriff’s Department spokesman, Tony Cipolla, deputies got a report of a burglary in progress in the 2500 block of Snowcone Pl., in rural Arroyo Grande at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 16.
A woman said she was alone in the house when she heard someone enter the residence.
“When she encountered the male suspect,” Cipolla said, “he ran out of the home and began walking down the street.”
The woman alerted some neighbors who were outside at the time and they contacted the suspect, whom they said allegedly confessed to intending to burglarize the home. They called the Sheriff’s Department but the man took off running before they got there.
“Three male neighbors tackled the suspect and held him until deputies arrived,” Cipolla said. “Deputies discovered the man was carrying a small knife and a hammer.”
The suspect, identified as James Benjamin Scott, 18, of Arroyo Grande, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and possession of burglary tools.
