The County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a homeless man who allegedly broke into the County animal shelter and stole his own dog back, before the County could put the dog down for reportedly biting more than one person.
According to Sheriff’s spokesman, Tony Cipolla, on Nov. 10 the Sheriff’s department was notified of a burglary overnight at the Department of Animal Services shelter on Oklahoma Avenue.
“A staff member at the center said someone broke into the kennel and took a black and brown brindled colored pit bull mix named “Sid,” Cipolla said in a news statement. “The dog had been quarantined at the kennel because he was considered dangerous with two previous bite attacks that sent each victim to the hospital for treatment. A judge had issued an order in October that the dog was dangerous to society and would be euthanized on Nov. 11.”
The investigation led to the Sheriff’s Office naming the dog’s owner, Logan Timothy Wilson Stoffle, 24, as a suspect in the burglary. A homeless man, Stoffle is known to frequent the Atascadero area, Cipolla said, and the Sheriff’s Office is seeking help in finding him and Sid, “so no one else is harmed by this dog.” Call 781-4550 if someone sees Stoffle and his dog.
