Top 10 Things to Do in San Luis Obispo

IMG_3884If you Google search “Top 10 Things to Do in San Luis Obispo,” guess what tops the list?

Yep, the Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market does.  Some describing it as a “magical market” or “amazing atmosphere.”  Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market is one reason that makes our quaint town so charming.  Sure you can come to the Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market to get fresh locally grown ingredients, but it’s more than that– it’s a place to Discover Local Flavor and revel in the experience of it all.

“Every week, I look forward to our Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market.  My senses are stimulated by the aroma of delicious food from the street vendors, the sound of local musicians and the bright colors and textures of locally grown foods.  This is one reason I love SLO! We are a community that fosters family-run farms and
businesses.

There’s no better way to showcase that support than through our Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market,” says Amber Bixler, Owner, Elevenses Mind & Body Therapy in San Luis Obispo.

Your five senses do come alive once you get to Higuera Street on IMG_3889Thursday night.  The sight is truly enchanting with the lighted trees lined twinkling above the avenue of local vendors and crowds perusing about the local goods and delicious cuisine. Your sense of smell and taste is tantalized with the many local food vendors such as the freshly popped kettle corn from G. Brothers Smokehouse, Splash Café Seafood & Grill’s famous clam chowder and, of course, the scent from the plethora of barbeques grilling.

Your sense of hearing is amused with musical acts performing throughout the market like the ever-popular Bucket Busters or the Lord of the Cello.

Your sense of touch is not forgotten with special events like STEAM Alley (an interactive section promoting science, technology, engineering, arts and math), Halloween festivities, Bunny Trail and Downtown Brown’s Birthday Celebration.  All of these things along with the colorful fruits and vegetables are what lend to the ambiance of the “World Famous” street fair.

IMG_3919City of San Luis Obispo Economic Development Manager Lee Johnson claims, “There are six words that everyone says when trying to attract people to SLO: ‘You have to go to Farmers’.

Whether it’s someone looking to vacation here, work here, study here or move here for the quality of life, they inevitably hear those six words, and for good reason.  It’s such a special event: always a little different, but always predictably great, too!”

You can experience and Discover Local Flavor at Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market on any Thursday night from 6 PM– 9 PM any time of the year.  You can definitely go there to shop for locally grown produce, but you can also make a night of it with really good street food, live music, and kids’ activities.

Plus, where else can you go to get a huge hug from the loveable, cuddly Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market mascot, Downtown Brown?
