Train Death Ruled Accident

A woman struck by a train Jan. 4 has been identified as a well-known local transient and Coroner’s Office has concluded the death was accidental.

The Coroner’s Office said Saralee Lua, 54, was struck by an Amtrak train at about 8:40 p.m. on tracks near the end of Industrial Way, which is behind the Graduate Nightclub and a long-time location for homeless encampments. Lua was transported to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries.

The official cause of death, after an autopsy was performed, has been determined to be “exsanguination from blunt force trauma injuries.” Toxicology results are pending.
