The Annual Blessing of the Fleet and community barbecue is set for 1 p.m. Sunday, May 1 on the North T-pier in Morro Bay.

Sponsored by the Commercial Fishermen’s Organization, the ceremony is led by local ministers. All who venture to sea — Coast Guard, Harbor Patrol, fishermen, sport fishermen and recreational boaters, etc. — receive blessings and prayers for their safety.

Ministers then take to the water and go down the harbor tossing flowers to the boat folks and blessing the boats, too.

The T-pier ceremony is free and the CFO sponsors a free barbecue lunch afterwards at the Vet’s Hall, 209 Surf St. All are welcome.
