New City Manager Meet and Greet

After a little more than a week on the job, the City of Arroyo Grande recently held a “meet and greet” to welcome the new city manager. Community members, business owners and city officials from neighboring municipalities attended the informal gathering for Dianne Thompson.
“This is a wonderful community, and I am really excited to be here,” Thompson told Coast News. “I feel very fortunate to be in Arroyo Grande. I am very honored to be the city manager.” Continue reading New City Manager Meet and Greet

Science Camp for Girls is Back

CN Comm science campThe Science for Girls camp will be held August 3-7 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., for ages 8-12, at 229 Stanley Avenue in Arroyo Grande.
This is the second year following a very successful first year. The girls are mentored by a different person in a field of science each day including: Technology with iFixit, materials engineering with Cal Poly’s VISTA program, chemistry, biology by Central Coast Salmon Enhancement, aeronautics with the Cal Poly Professor of Propulsion, Industrial Engineering and special support provided by the STEAM Trunk Initiative.
The camp is fueled by STEAM, (science, technology, engineering, art, and math), involves hands-on projects, mentors who can relate to girls and experts in these fields of study. The cost is $75 for the entire week, with a scholarship offered.

Arroyo Grande Looks Good to Meet Water Mandate

With the statewide drought showing no sign of relief, the Arroyo Grande City Council unanimously declared a Stage 1 Water Shortage Emergency, however the city is already more than halfway to its goals
A Stage 1 emergency was declared as a result of the ongoing severe drought conditions. Rainfall is 47 percent less than normal resulting in low Lopez Reservoir levels and consequent reductions in deliveries of water from the lake. Bridge Work in A.G. Scheduled for June

A project to replace a structurally deficient bridge in rural Arroyo Grande is expected to begin in early June.
The County Board of Supervisors recently awarded a contract for the Tar Spring Creek Bridge on Branch Mill Road.
The R. Burke Corporation came in as the lowest responsible bidder at $1,999,148. A total of six bids were received. The Griffith Company had the highest bid at $3,191,236. Continue reading Bridge Work in A.G. Scheduled for June
