County Balances Budget

The San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors approved a $562.1 million budget for fiscal year 2015-16, putting the tight budgets of the past firmly behind them.
Outside of normal operating costs, highlights include $39 million for road construction and $2.16 million for a long list of community programs for the homeless or at-risk populations in SLO County.
A cross-section of that $2.6 million goes to programs that aid quality of life for the poor in SLO, offering child development and education programs, and preventative health services.
“The arts” also got a chunk of that money with $250,000 designated for the Foundation for the Performing Arts Center of San Luis Obispo and on the economic development front, $200,000 for the SLO HotHouse.
“The County is committed to our community and we’re proud to support programs that help further our mission,” said Dist. 5 Supervisor and Board Chairwoman, Debbie Arnold, in a press statement. “With the community’s input, we have a clear plan and balanced budget for the next fiscal year that will enhance the economic, environmental and social quality of life here.”
The Board unanimously approved the budget, which has a $464.9 million General Fund.
County Administrative Officer Dan Buckshi was again proud of the presentation of the document, which is available online at: www.slocounty.ca.gov.
The County received its fourth consecutive “Distinguished Budget Presentation Award” from the Government Finance Officers Association for the FY 2014-15 budget.
Only 13 counties met the transparency criteria for the statewide awards.
