Runners caught a break with mostly cool, overcast conditions Sept. 9 for the first ever SLO Ultra 50 Mile race.
With several shorter events scheduled throughout the day on the, private Wild Cherry Canyon ranch, racers came from all over the state, with the City of San Luis Obispo well represented on the winners’ podium.
While Gary Gellin, 48, from Mill Valley, CA and Nicole Judd, 29, from Temecula, CA won the 50-Mile in 7 hours, 48 minutes, 3 seconds and 9:00:49, respectively –
Michelle Hamilton, 35, of SLO came in second at 9:30:12.
Locals from across the county took most of the winning slots for the Men’s and Women’s full marathons:
1) Joe Thorne, 32, Grover Beach, CA, 3:06:11
2) Feliciano Aguilar, 35, Santa Maria, CA, 3:51.58
3) Calvin Harris, 28, Arroyo Grande, CA, 3:56:45
Holly Rodgers, 37 of Los Osos, came in third in the women’s at 4:21:01.
And both the Men’s and women’s Half-Marathon were dominated by residents from SLO.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Land Conservancy of SLO County.
