SLO City News Preview – June 11 Issue

Fans of hot takeout have something to think about as the City of San Luis Obispo marches forward on a Styrofoam ban. The folks over at SLO Foam Free are taking their petition drive over to Morro Bay next, but for now you can read about what SLO’s Special Project Manager came up with after months of work.

The other cover story this week, Drought! Not to overuse the exclamation mark, this will be the first time it’s run in in a SLO City News headline so please pay attention. That’s been the bane of the California Office of Emergency Services since declaring thee drought, i.e. too many people continuing business as usual. On June 2 the City of SLO decided to show that the utilities department is taking the threat seriously. Even though their revenue depends on selling water, they still want residents to cut back use by 12 percent over last year. That could have something to do with being fined $10,000 per day by the State if they don’t hit the mark.

On a lighter note, its now easier than ever to take a quick trip up to San Francisco out of the SLO Regional Airport. Management just announced they’ve wrangled another daily flight to service the line, making 150 seats available (page 10).

If you’d like to stay closer to home but missed the fun last week, Mission Plaza came alive with the SLO Greek Festival the last weekend in May. We’ve got pics that will make you want to go next year (page 42). For now the Wild Donkey and Petra in SLO satisfy some cravings though.

All that and more in the next issue of the SLO City News!
