Steven Michael Williams, 28, was arrested on Sunday after officers responded to a burglar alarm at 7:30 a.m. at San Luis Print and Copy located at 265 South St. Upon arrival, officers discovered a burglary had just occurred with a loss of cash but the suspect was gone.
At about 8:30 a.m., a resident in the apartment complex at 2221 King St., about 2 blocks away from San Luis Print and Copy, called 911 to report an attempted burglary at his apartment.
According to a news release, the victim reported that someone had rung his doorbell, but he decided not to answer the door. Moments later, he heard someone trying to pry one of his windows open. The victim confronted the suspect who fled on foot.
Police caught up with the suspect in the apartment complex across the street. He was carrying a “tool likely used to try to pry the window open.”
Additionally, officers located the exact amount of cash missing from the commercial burglary. A witness who saw the suspect fleeing from the print shop said the suspect who was detained for the King St. attempted burglary was likely the same person.
Williams was listed as a resident of Arroyo Grande but has recently become homeless and has been staying in San Luis Obispo. He was booked into County Jail with bail set at $75,000.
