The Grover Beach Police Department recently conducted a crosswalk enforcement detail along Grand Avenue. A plain-clothes officer crossed the street at a designated crosswalk 100 times resulting in several drivers failing to obey the pedestrian right of way.
Nine citations were issued for failure to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk, and one citation was issued for passing a car that had stopped for a pedestrian. Other citations issued during the operation included driving on a suspended license, driving on an expired license, and misdemeanor warrants.
According to a new release, the objective of the enforcement is to highlight the importance of pedestrian safety and awareness whether a person is on foot of driving.
The department will continue to conduct crosswalk enforcements.
