San Luis Obispo’s favorite event for seeing local male political leaders and dozens of fraternity brothers strut their stuff in red high-heels was held for the 14th year April 30.

Walk a Mile In Her Shoes is an international movement that “encourages men to march to end rape, sexual assault and gender violence.”

Every year, SLO County guys and a few female supporters, join in with the walk to benefit the local nonprofit organization RISE.

This year the event featured li100_3311ve music by The Kicks, with vendors and an introduction to the ‘Celebrity Walkers,’ ahead of the mile walk through downtown.

Guests this year included some who’d also walked in Pasos Robles a few days before as well as Mayors John Shoals and Jim Hill of Grover Beach and Arroyo Grande respectively.

All three male members of the SLO City Council made an appearance as well, with John Ashbaugh bandaging up tired feet after a mornin100_3312g marathon.

SLO Fire Chief Garret Olson chose some sensible sandals with a flower print as he was also about to run the half-marathon on May 1. As a special treat, RISE asked Star Wars fans from the “Rebel Legion” – www.RebelLegion.com – to participate.
