The Morro Bay Chapter of the American Association of University Women sent four Los Osos Middle School students to “Tech Trek,” a weeklong summer camp in science, technology, engineering and math, held at U.C. Santa Barbara.
The four Tech Trekkies — Natalie Stevens, Sierra Kocina, Eliza Black and Taylor Costa (shown here) — were chosen from 18 applicants recommended by their science and/or math teachers. AAUW’s screening process included an application, an essay, and a personal interview.
Tech Trek is supported by national, state and local branches of AAUW, and is designed “to develop interest, excitement, and self-confidence in young women who will enter eighth grade in the fall,” AAUW said in a news release. “It features hands-on activities in math, science, and related fields and a brief look at college life.”
Tech Trek is AAUW Morro Bay’s principal educational outreach program and is supported in large part by the Annual Morro Bay Garden Tour.
